Overview

Have you realised that mountaineering is for you but don't know where to start?

Choose the mountaineering course at Monte Rosa's Vincent Pyramid! Let yourself be tempted by your first 4000-metre peak. We will take you to look down on the valleys of Monte Rosa from above, so high that your gaze will stretch as far as the Maritime Alps and Mont Blanc. An ascent to an important but accessible 4000-meter peak, where we will learn how to rope up, use crampons and prepare for more challenging climbs.

Period: From June to September

Programme

FIRST DAY:

We meet at 14:30 at the lift ticket office in Staffal for a gear check. Afterwards, we take the lifts up to Punta Indren (3270 m) and continue on foot from there to the Rifugio Città di Mantova (3498 m), reaching it in about an hour's walk. Dinner and overnight stay.

SECOND DAY:

We set off at dawn to climb the Vincent Pyramid (4215 m). During the hike, we'll focus on a practical introduction to mountaineering: covering equipment, glacier walking techniques, and mountain safety.

A wonderful first taste of the high-altitude world, perfectly suited for those taking their very first steps in the mountains.

Duration of the ascent from Rifugio Città di Mantova: approximately 3 hours
Ascent elevation gain: approximately 700 m

What to know before you set off

Mountaineering is by its very nature an adventurous activity. The Monte Rosa guides, all of whom are UIAGM certified, are dedicated to doing everything possible to minimise any hazards, but a element of risk is always present and should be embraced as part of the adventure before signing up for our activities.

The Monte Rosa Guides will always do their utmost to help you achieve your personal goals and ensure you have the best possible experience in nature. However, you must agree to trust their professional judgement whilst in the mountains and respect any decision they make, including turning back, should it be deemed necessary. Being well-prepared and maintaining a good level of physical fitness is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey on all our excursions. If, due to fitness levels or any other reason, your guide feels you are not quite ready for your chosen activity, they will happily suggest alternative adventures beautifully suited to your current level of preparation.
