Overview

An evocative high-altitude crossing that traces the base of the Lyskamm group in a truly breathtaking mountain environment. This historical route of the Trofeo Mezzalama ski mountaineering race clean cuts through the Monte Rosa skyline, offering a privileged view of the Felik and Lys glaciers.

Please note: the Lyskamm crossing is intended for experienced mountaineers. Before accepting the climb, our guides will ask for your climbing resume and, if necessary, suggest a warm-up climb to assess your skills and preparation.
As this type of ascent requires stable weather and excellent conditions, it is only possible to set an indicative date, which must then be confirmed in the preceding days. We are unable to offer a package rate including ski lifts and mountain huts for this climb, as these will need to be booked closer to the date once conditions have been evaluated.

Period: From June to September

Programme

Day 1:
We will meet at 14:30 at the Staffal ski lift ticket office for a gear check and a briefing on the climb.
Together, we will take the lifts up to Colle della Bettaforca (2700 m), from where we begin our hike towards the Quintino Sella Hut (3585 m).
The trail takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes, leading us to one of the most scenic mountain huts in the Monte Rosa massif. Upon arrival, we will settle in for dinner and our overnight stay.

Day 2:
At dawn, we rope up and set off for the traverse of the Lyskamm Nose, one of the most beautiful routes in the Monte Rosa group.

The ascent will take about 5 hours, crossing mixed terrain (max 40°) and magnificent glacier sections, reaching the Città di Mantova Hut (3498 m).
From there, we descend to Punta Indren and return by ski lifts to Staffal, with an expected arrival time around 16:30.

What to know before you set off

Mountaineering is by its very nature an adventurous activity. The Monte Rosa guides, all of whom are UIAGM certified, are dedicated to doing everything possible to minimise any hazards, but a element of risk is always present and should be embraced as part of the adventure before signing up for our activities.

The Monte Rosa Guides will always do their utmost to help you achieve your personal goals and ensure you have the best possible experience in nature. However, you must agree to trust their professional judgement whilst in the mountains and respect any decision they make, including turning back, should it be deemed necessary. Being well-prepared and maintaining a good level of physical fitness is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey on all our excursions. If, due to fitness levels or any other reason, your guide feels you are not quite ready for your chosen activity, they will happily suggest alternative adventures beautifully suited to your current level of preparation.
